MIRASHANNELL: A Journey of Purpose, Entrepreneurship, and Medical Coding Education

My name is Jarmira Shannell Hicks, though many people know me professionally through the MIRASHANNELL brand — a platform built on education, entrepreneurship, empowerment, and opportunity. My journey within the medical industry was not built overnight. It was built through vision, persistence, creativity, and a deep passion for helping others create better futures for themselves through healthcare education and professional growth.

From the beginning, I understood that the healthcare industry offered more than just employment opportunities — it offered stability, purpose, financial independence, and the ability to positively impact lives. As I explored the world of Medical Billing and Coding, I quickly recognized that many aspiring coders struggled to find affordable, realistic, and understandable guidance for certification preparation. Too many students were overwhelmed by expensive tuition costs, confusing instruction, and a lack of practical CPC exam-focused support. That realization became the foundation for what would later evolve into MIRASHANNELL Medical Coding Academy.

My mission became centered around helping students prepare for the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) exam through strategic manual preparation, coding guideline comprehension, CPT navigation techniques, terminology reinforcement, and confidence-building instruction. Rather than focusing strictly on memorization, I dedicated myself to teaching future coders how to critically analyze coding scenarios, understand medical documentation, apply coding guidelines correctly, and navigate coding manuals effectively under exam pressure.

As an educator and entrepreneur, I began developing study resources designed specifically to simplify the learning process for students preparing for certification exams. These resources included CPC study guides, mock exams, keyword systems, manual annotation strategies, coding planners, review packets, and educational materials tailored toward helping students understand the practical side of coding. My goal was simple: make medical coding education more accessible, affordable, and empowering for individuals seeking career advancement within the healthcare industry.

Over time, MIRASHANNELL Medical Coding Academy grew into more than just an educational platform. It became a growing community focused on motivation, self-paced learning, career readiness, and personal empowerment. Through online educational content, social media instruction, livestream reviews, mentorship, and digital resources, I created an environment where students could feel encouraged and supported while navigating the challenges of the medical coding industry.

Beyond medical coding education, my entrepreneurial journey expanded into branding, digital business development, mentorship, and educational content creation. I discovered that entrepreneurship and healthcare education could successfully work together to create meaningful impact. Through creativity, innovation, and determination, I was able to build a business platform designed not only to educate students but also to inspire individuals to pursue ownership, financial freedom, and long-term professional growth.

One of the most fulfilling parts of my journey has been witnessing students regain confidence in themselves. Many individuals enter the medical coding field feeling uncertain, discouraged, or intimidated by the certification process. Being able to guide, motivate, and educate those individuals reminds me why I began this journey in the first place. I strongly believe that quality education should be attainable without creating overwhelming financial hardship, and I remain committed to advocating for affordable educational opportunities that genuinely prepare students for success.

As my career continues to evolve, I remain focused on expanding the impact of the MIRASHANNELL brand within the healthcare and educational industries. My future goals include continuing to educate future coders, creating advanced educational resources, expanding professional development opportunities, strengthening business systems, and inspiring others — especially aspiring entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals — to recognize the power of their knowledge, creativity, and determination.

My story is ultimately one of resilience, purpose, vision, and faith. Through persistence and a passion for helping others succeed, I transformed my interest in the medical industry into a growing educational and entrepreneurial platform dedicated to empowerment through education. And while my journey has already accomplished so much, I believe this is only the beginning of the legacy I intend to build within healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship.
